United States President Joe Biden has unintentionally become associated with Bitcoin (BTC) after sharing a picture of himself with laser eyes on his X and Instagram profiles.

With the caption “just like we drew it up,” the post referenced the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl.
Though initially seen as a nod to Bitcoin, Biden’s use of the “Dark Brandon” meme suggested a different meaning. This meme relates to a conspiracy theory suggesting the Super Bowl was rigged to ensure Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team won, enabling Swift to endorse Biden for president.
Biden’s social media team has previously used this meme humorously. Crypto X reacted swiftly, with Bankless questioning its impact on the ETH/BTC chart, and pseudonymous user WhalePanda implying “cultural appropriation.”
It’s crucial to note that Biden hasn’t endorsed any pro-Bitcoin policies, making it unlikely he’d endorse any specific crypto asset. According to Coinbase’s Stand with Crypto, Biden is labeled as “anti-crypto,” with five public statements leaning negatively towards digital assets.
The laser eyes trend, symbolizing a bullish outlook on Bitcoin, began as part of a campaign to drive Bitcoin’s price to $100,000 by 2021’s end, though this goal wasn’t met. Notable personalities joining this trend included NFL star Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, and Elon Musk.
While Biden indirectly referenced Bitcoin, Block CEO Jack Dorsey made a more explicit statement, sporting a Satoshi T-shirt at the Super Bowl. This T-shirt design resembled the smiley face from Nirvana’s 1991 album “Nevermind.”
